DI-Guy has collaborated on a number of Serious Games applications with our partners to deliver outstanding cutting-edge training:

Serious Game #1: Virtual Incident Command

Under the auspices of the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP), SAIC uses DI-Guy Scenario for its 3D simulation needs in its Virtual Incident Command training system. Students learn about chemical weapons, WMDs, and Incident Command Structure (ICS) over the first 2 days of a 3 day class, and on the third day engage in exercises where "Model City" suffers a WMD-type event. A room is outfitted to simulate a command vehicle driven to the accident site. DI-Guy Scenario is used for multiple "out the window" simulations of the urban crisis, as well as simulating television broadcasts of the event. Students make choices on how to quarantine the area and victims, set up road blocks and decontamination areas, and communicate between the different agencies involved as well as the media.

Victims evacuate the Civic Center A newscaster reports on the disaster A "live" interview with a fireman

Victims go through the decontamination zone.

Play Sarin Gas Evacuation Movie Opening sequence to the urban crisis.

Play Decontamination Movie Firefighters establish a decon zone.

Serious Game #2: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Under the auspices of TSWG, Sensis networks together 16 DI-Guy Scenario Student stations under the control of a 17th DI-Guy Scenario Instructor station to run simulations to train and test student knowledge in the use of PPE. In these simulations, students control a DI-Guy avatar via the mouse and keyboard and move the avatar through 3 different scenarios:
  1. Railroad Chlorine spill
  2. Radioactive "Dirty Bomb"
  3. Avian Influenza Crisis
As they move through each scenario, the students interact with other characters in the scene, pick up and use items, don and doff PPE, and answer multiple choice questions related to PPE topics. The teacher monitors their progress from his Instructor station and records their performances and scores based on goals achieved, correct answers, calamities avoided, lives saved, etc. Both the students and the instructor use a customized GUI front-end to DI-Guy Scenario to maximize simplicity and ease-of-use.

Security officers discuss recent threats in the news After securing the scene, an avatar gets decontaminated

Play Train Derail Movie Opening sequence to the chlorine spill.

Play Dirty Bomb Movie Avatars discuss likelihood of an attack.

Serious Game #3: Advanced Use-of-Force Training System (AUFTS)

Under the auspices of NIJ (National Institute of Justice), NAVAIR TSD Orlando uses DI-Guy Scenario in a shoot/don't shoot law enforcement trainer. The system features:
  • authoring and delivery system in one application
  • instrumented weapon (taser and pistol) DI-Guy Scenario plugin
  • speech recognition DI-Guy Scenario plugin
  • extensive branching and logic
  • dedicated operator GUI when not in authoring mode
The instructor is able to select the race/appearance and voice characteristics of suspects in each scenario. As the scenario progresses, the vocal input of the officer being trained is critical. His questions and commands are automatically processed, and can help escalate and de-escalate the situation. Multiple exits from the scenario occur ranging from a successful arrest of a suspect, to the suspect fleeing, or even assaulting the officer.

Scenarios offered include:
  • Suspicious "crazed" individual in urban alley
  • DUI highway pullover arrest
  • Warrant arrest with angry spouse
  • Domestic Violence
New scenarios being worked on include
  • School Safety
  • Corrections

Officer in "training alley" interacts with AUFTS.
Domestic Violence reported Outcome 1: Male threatens officer Outcome 2: Male assaults female
Outcome 3: Male walks off Male enters house Male assaults officer

Play After Action CED Arrest After Action review of an officer making an arrest using his CED (taser).
